Acupuncture for Repetitive Stress Injury

A large percentage of patients that are seen at Juniper, are repetitive stress injury cases. These are aches and pains that come about without specific incident of injury, but instead from repeating certain motions over and over that are bodies are either not equipped to do or that we are doing incorrectly.

Computer work is a large proponent of these kind of injuries, often causing back, neck, shoulder, wrist and arm pain, as well as postural related headaches to name a few. Improper sitting or standing posture over a long period of time often combined with stress, infrequent stretching and movement is the root to this type of injury. Other activities that require repetitive lifting, hammering, use of fine motor movements such as texting and browsing on phones, and even driving are also sources of this type of injury.

Acupuncture works to restore proper posture and alignment to the body by loosening tight muscles, and tendons, stabilizing ligaments and increasing blood flow to nourish affected areas. Acupuncture may be combined with other modalities such as electrical stimulation, cupping, gua sha, soft tissue manipulation, and application of heat. Furthermore, strengthening, stretching and other lifestyle modifications may be prescribed to prevent further injury.
